Ultimate Infra-Sonic Performance & Scale | Available at Trimira Audio
The Wilson Audio Subsonic is a reference passive subwoofer designed to extend the performance of Wilson Audio's largest full-range loudspeakers into the deepest bass and infrasonic region.
Developed from the engineering principles of the WAMM Master Subsonic, the Subsonic combines three dedicated 12-inch long-throw woofers, a substantial X-Material enclosure, and a dual-ported architecture.
Unlike an internally amplified subwoofer, the Subsonic is passive, allowing system designers to select an external high-current amplifier and integrate an active crossover for precise control of the low-frequency system.
At Trimira Audio, we recommend the Subsonic for uncompromising reference systems built around loudspeakers such as the Chronosonic XVX, Alexx V, and Alexia V, where maximum low-frequency scale and system-level integration are required.
Key Features & Technological Innovations
WAMM Master Subsonic-Derived Architecture
The Subsonic draws heavily on the architecture developed for Wilson Audio's ultra-exclusive WAMM Master Subsonic.
Its large cabinet volume, driver complement, and structural approach are designed specifically for extremely deep bass reproduction.
Triple 12-Inch Dual-Spider Woofers
Three dedicated 12-inch (30.48 cm) dual-spider long-throw woofers provide substantial acoustic displacement.
The drivers are designed to operate through the lowest bass octaves, supporting the Subsonic's specified extension to 10 Hz.
Dense X-Material Enclosure
The Subsonic uses a substantial X-Material composite enclosure with extensive internal structural reinforcement.
The rigid cabinet is designed to provide a mechanically stable foundation during extreme low-frequency operation.
Dual Front-Firing Ports
Two precision-contoured front ports form part of the reflex loading system.
The front-firing configuration provides controlled airflow and allows the subwoofer to be positioned without requiring rear-port clearance.
External Active Crossover Integration
The passive architecture allows the Subsonic to be incorporated with an external active crossover such as the Wilson Audio ActivXO.
This provides system-level control over:
- Low-pass frequency
- Gain
- Phase
- Integration with the main loudspeakers
- Low-frequency system architecture
Flexible Stereo & Mono Deployment
The Subsonic can be deployed as:
Single Subsonic → Mono Low-Frequency Foundation
or as:
Left Subsonic + Right Subsonic → Stereo Low-Frequency System
A stereo pair can provide greater spatial consistency and symmetrical low-frequency loading in suitable reference rooms.

External Amplification & Crossover
Because the Subsonic is a passive design, amplifier selection is a fundamental part of the system.
The specified 4-ohm nominal impedance and substantial driver complement call for an amplifier capable of delivering clean current and maintaining stability into the load.
An active crossover can then be positioned ahead of the subwoofer amplifier to establish the correct low-frequency transition between the Subsonic and the main loudspeakers.
A typical architecture is:
Source → Preamplifier / Processor → Active Crossover → Main Amplifier + Subwoofer Amplifier → Main Loudspeakers + Subsonic
This gives the installer considerably more control than a conventional internally amplified subwoofer.
Reference-System Integration
The Subsonic is particularly appropriate for very large reference loudspeakers where the objective is not simply more bass, but an extended low-frequency foundation beneath an already full-range system.
Suitable applications include:
- Wilson Audio Chronosonic XVX systems
- Wilson Audio Alexx V systems
- Wilson Audio Alexia V systems
- Large dedicated two-channel rooms
- Reference home cinemas
- Stereo subwoofer installations
At nearly 278 kg per channel, delivery, floor loading, positioning, and final installation require professional planning.
