The Absolute Benchmark in Four-Tower Loudspeaker Design | Available at Trimira Audio
The Gryphon Kodo Reference Loudspeaker System is a statement-level four-tower loudspeaker platform designed around physical separation of the mid/high-frequency and low-frequency sections.
Rather than concentrating all transducers within a conventional single enclosure, Kodo separates the delicate mid/high-frequency array from dedicated bass towers. This architecture is intended to reduce mechanical interaction between high-energy bass reproduction and the more sensitive midrange and treble sections.
The system incorporates 38 custom drive units, a Constant Phase mid/high array, Gryphon-Mundorf AMT high-frequency reproduction, and independently amplified bass towers with active Q-Control.
At Trimira Audio, we recommend Kodo for exceptionally large reference listening rooms where system scale, dynamic capability, and sophisticated low-frequency integration are paramount.
Key Features & Technological Innovations
Four-Tower Statement Architecture
Kodo separates the system into:
- Two dedicated mid/high towers
- Two dedicated active bass towers
This physical separation reduces the mechanical interaction between the high-frequency enclosure and the substantial acoustic forces generated by the bass section.
It also allows the bass system to be engineered and controlled independently from the mid/high array.
Constant Phase Array
The mid/high section uses a curved Constant Phase array designed to maintain consistent acoustic phase and arrival characteristics across the driver complement.
The arrangement incorporates multiple midrange and mid-bass drivers around a central AMT tweeter to create a coherent acoustic source.
Gryphon-Mundorf Air Motion Transformer
A Gryphon-Mundorf AMT handles the highest frequencies.
The Air Motion Transformer architecture uses a folded diaphragm structure to move air through its pleated surface, providing a large radiating area from a compact driver element.
1,000-Watt Active Bass Towers
Each bass tower incorporates eight custom 8-inch drivers and its own 1,000-watt RMS Class A/AB amplifier.
This provides dedicated amplification for the low-frequency system rather than requiring the main stereo amplifier to drive the bass section.
Active Gryphon Q-Control
The active bass system incorporates Gryphon Q-Control, allowing the low-frequency damping characteristics to be adjusted to suit the room and installation.
This provides additional control over the relationship between the bass system, room boundaries, and listening position.
Constrained-Layer Cabinet Construction
The towers use a combination of dense fibreboard, aluminium reinforcement, and extensive internal bracing.
The construction is designed to minimise cabinet vibration and mechanical energy that could otherwise colour the acoustic output.

Reference-System Amplification
The Kodo's dedicated active bass towers fundamentally change the amplification requirements compared with a conventional passive loudspeaker.
The bass section has its own 1,000-watt amplifier per tower, while the mid/high towers require suitable external amplification.
This allows the external stereo amplifier to concentrate on the midrange and high-frequency sections rather than simultaneously supplying the substantial current demanded by multiple bass drivers.
Trimira Audio can assist with:
- Mid/high amplifier selection
- Preamplifier matching
- System gain structure
- Balanced connectivity
- Bass Q-Control configuration
- Crossover integration
Large-Room Integration
With each tower measuring approximately 2.37 metres high and the complete system approaching 900 kg, Kodo is intended for serious dedicated listening environments.
Room planning should account for:
- Speaker positioning
- Listening distance
- Symmetrical room geometry
- Bass-tower placement
- Floor loading
- Equipment access
- Acoustic treatment
- Amplifier location
- Power requirements
The system's scale makes professional installation and final calibration particularly valuable.
Low-Frequency System Optimisation
The active bass towers provide dedicated amplification and Q-Control, allowing the low-frequency system to be integrated more precisely with the room.
Rather than simply maximising bass output, the installation can be optimised around the acoustic behaviour of the room and the desired relationship between low-frequency extension, transient response, and damping.
Trimira Audio can assist with:
- Bass-tower positioning
- Q-Control adjustment
- Crossover integration
- Room-mode management
- Listening-position optimisation
- Final system calibration
Reference Four-Tower Architecture
The Kodo's overall signal architecture can be viewed as:
Source → Preamplifier → External Amplification → Mid/High Towers
with the bass system operating independently:
Source / System Control → Active Bass Amplification + Q-Control → Bass Towers
This division provides dedicated resources for the low-frequency and mid/high-frequency sections while maintaining a unified acoustic presentation.
Installation & Logistics
Kodo's physical scale requires specialist planning.
With a total system weight of approximately 900 kg, appropriate flooring, access routes, lifting equipment, and final positioning should all be considered before delivery.
The towers' substantial height also makes precise positioning and room symmetry important.
Trimira Audio can coordinate the audio-system planning required for a Kodo installation, including room assessment, amplifier matching, placement, and final calibration.
